Under the Christmas tree, French cities have found the announcement which officially opens the race for European capital of culture for 2028. At the moment these are the cities that have officially expressed interest in applying: Reims, Rouen, Bourges, Clermont-Ferrand, Banlieue, Saint Denis, Amiens. Today the EcocNews focus is about Bourges.

Under the Christmas tree, French cities have found the announcement which officially opens the race for European capital of culture for 2028.

France, the Czech Republic and Macedonia are the countries that in 2028 will indicate the European capital of culture. Here are the first candidate cities: Czech Republic: Chomutov, Brno, Liberec, Broumov, Kutná Hora. France:  Amiens, Reims, Rouen, Bourges, Clermont-Ferrand, Banlieue. Macedonia: Skopje. Reims is now officially a candidate for the 2028 European Capital of Culture.

In the end, Bourges will be the European Capital of Culture in 2028 for France. A title it will share with Budweiss for the Czech Republic and Skopje for North Macedonia.

The announcement was made by the president of the evaluation panel, Rossella Tarantino, who made it clear from her words that it was not an easy choice.

Every year, two countries of the European Union nominate one city for the title of European Capital of Culture, which in 2028 will be hosted by the Czech Republic and France.
