European cultural design, community stories, future. Starting from the designation of Matera as the European Capital of Culture 2019, the Lucania Film Festival inaugurates a new narrative window on Europe and invites foundations and international organizations that have submitted projects and won the title of European Capital of Culture to participate in the Short for Capital contest, to tell their experience and the impact generated in the urban context and on the territory of belonging.

Bodø2024 and Sparebank1 Nord-Norge Samfunnsløftet announce funds for the project European Cabins of Culture, which is part of the programme for Bodø2024. Bodø and the county of Nordland are European Capital of Culture in 2024. They want to fill tourist cabins and other hiking destinations with artistic and cultural content.

What is Europe in reality and how can it be shaped by our imaginations? What do we aspire for it to be – beyond politics, economics, and national borders? What will it take to get us there? How, through the metaphor of the pavilion, can we rethink Europe?

In 2031, Spain will again be one of the European countries to nominate the European Capital of Culture along with Malta. After Madrid (1992), Santiago de Compostela (2000), Salamanca (2002) and San Sebastian (2016), this will be the fifth time for Spain to nominate a European Capital of Culture. One of the Spanish cities that has already decided to participate in the competition is Burgos. 'Renaissance' is the title of the project. Chemnitz in Germany will be European Cultural Capital in 2025. A number of additional open calls of the “European Workshop for Culture and Democracy” with various topics have started and project ideas and concepts can be sumbitted.
